Questions that arise about spirituality, the purpose of life, connection to God, suffering, values, death, morality, and faith are deeply personal and difficult questions to answer at times. These concerns may arise from losing a loved one or searching for your purpose in life. Fortify counselors can walk alongside you as you grapple with these crises and discuss your Christian faith or spiritual concerns with you.
Common Spiritual Questions:
- What is my purpose?
- Is there a heaven or a hell?
- What happens after we die?
- Why do we suffer so greatly on earth?
- Is there a God, and who is he?
- How can I connect with my faith and spirituality?
As you wrestle with these questions, your counselor can be a listening ear and provide support as you find clarity and understanding of navigating and integrating faith into your life. Fortify’s counselors are clinically trained, and Biblically informed, which can provide counseling techniques, clinical skills, Biblical knowledge, and a faith-based perspective. Your counselor can help you explore your beliefs and values and help you discover what faith and spirituality mean to you.
Theoretical Lens
A theorist whose methodology emphasizes existential questions and spirituality is Viktor Frankl’s existential analysis. Frankl emphasized making meaning from suffering and finding purpose through the lens of faith and beliefs. Existential theorists like Frankl are the theoretical foundation for existential crises and wrestling with complex questions. Your counselor can use a theoretical and Biblical lens like existential theories to explore your thoughts on your presenting issue.
Biblical Lens
Addressing spiritual issues from a Biblical perspective can guide you to find clarity and meaning in your existential search. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” In this verse, Jesus offers spiritual wisdom and teaching on prayer. Jesus is urging his people to ask, seek, and find so that he can reveal himself and his truth. In the same way, you can knock and ask big questions like life’s purpose and meaning to your creator, and he will guide you. Scripture invites you to ask tough questions, trust in him, and know that he delights in you pursuing him and your purpose.
